"ان الانتخابات الرئاسية (في الواقع استفتاء وليس انتخاب حقيقي) التي يخطط نظام الأسد لإجراءها في سوريا، هي تقويض لإطار جنيف وهي استهزاء بالديمقراطية. وليس لها مصداقية. علاوة على ذلك، فإن النظام السوري في ظل حكم الأسد لم يُجرِ قط اي انتخابات حرة نزيهة ذات مصداقية، وقد قام النظام بإتخاذ جملة من الخطوات القانونية و الادارية لضمان عدم نزاهة هذه الانتخابات.
أن الدعوة الى استفتاء بحكم الامر الواقع هي دعوة جوفاء خصوصاً الآن مع استمرارالنظام بارتكاب المجازر بحق جمهور الناخبين الذي يدعي تمثيله.
وان القمع العنيف الذي مارسه النظام ضد مطالبات الشعب السوري بالحرية و الكرامة هو ما اشعل فتيل هذا الصراع الوحشي.
كما أن تنظيم انتخابات في ظل الظروف الحالية – بما في ذلك حرمان ملايين السوريين – لا يلبي تطلعات الشعب السوري و لا يقرب البلاد من اي حل سياسي تفاوضي".
