    "On December 23, 2010, Amr's friends picked him up and threw him up into the air outside the masjid to celebrate our wedding. On August 17, 2013, his friends silently carried his shrouded body to where he would be placed in his grave. These photos are less than three years apart.

    We had just started our lives together, and we were making plans – the kinds of plans that everyone makes for a family, a home, careers. And then suddenly, it was all over. When I spoke to him on the phone just half an hour before he was shot and killed, it never crossed my mind that it would be the last time I would hear his voice, his laugh, or his "I love you."

    You never know when "the last time" will be for you to do or say anything. The angel of death is a dutiful servant to his Lord, he will not pause or wait if it is your appointed time.

    "Say, 'Indeed, the death from which you flee - indeed, it will meet you. Then you will be returned to the Knower of the unseen and the witnessed, and He will inform you about what you used to do'" (62:8).

    Fix that which you have broken, join that which you have unlawfully separated, remember your grave often, remember Allah often. Make amends. Make amends. Make amends. Do not be fooled into leaving this world before Allah is pleased with you, and before your loved ones hold you in high esteem and pray for you.

    My Lord, witness that I hold Amr in high esteem! Grant him Your Love, take charge of his family and guide us to the path of truth, compassion, and sincerity, that we may also be enveloped in Your Mercy which knows no bounds."
