    Ubadah ibn as-Samit (r) bei der Eröffnung Ägyptens

    Ägypten gehört zu jenen Ländern, die sehr früh vom Islam eröffnet wurden. Schon zur Regierungszeit des zweiten rechtgeleiteten Kalifen Umar ibn ul-Chattab (r) konnten die Muslime Ägypten eröffnen. Nicht einmal zwanzig Jahre nach der Gründung des islamischen Staates in Medina war dieser Erfolg bereits möglich. Nicht die Zahl der Muslime gab den Ausschlag für die rasante Ausbreitung des Islam und die Ausdehnung des Kalifats, sondern der Ehrgeiz im Tragen der islamischen Botschaft und die Stärke ihrer islamischen Persönlichkeit.

    Der Kalif Umar ibn ul-Chattab (r) entsandte Amr ibn al-As (r) mit einem Heer, um das byzantinische Ägypten zu eröffnen. Dieser wurde im Anschluss der erste Gouverneur Ägyptens. Von diesem Zeitpunkt an herrschte über ein Jahrtausend lang der Islam. Von Ägypten aus folgten dann weitere Eröffnungen in Nordafrika.

    Die muslimischen Streitkräfte belagerten im Jahr 641 n. Chr. die Festung Babylon, wo al-Muqawqis (wahrscheinlich Cyrus, Patriarch von Alexandria) herrschte. Amr ibn al-As (r) entsandte eine Delegation von 10 Männern, an deren Spitze Ubadah ibn as-Samit (r) stand, um mit al-Muqawqis zu sprechen. Ubadah war von schwarzer Hautfarbe. Als sich die Delegation mit einem Boot auf den Weg zu al-Muqawqis machte und sich zu ihm begab, trat Ubadah vor, um mit al-Muqawqis zu sprechen.

    Al-Muqawqis war durch Ubadahs schwarze Hautfarbe alarmiert. Er sagte: „Führt diesen schwarzen Mann weg von mir und lasst einen anderen vortreten und mit mir sprechen." Die Männer der Delegation erwiderten al-Muqawqis: „Dieser schwarze Mann ist unter uns der Beste in Wissen und Weisheit. Er ist unser Führer und der Beste unter uns. Wir alle vertrauen auf seine Meinung. Unser Befehlshaber hat ihn als unseren Führer ernannt und uns befohlen, ihm nicht zuwider zu handeln. Dies gefiel al-Muqawqis nicht, so dass er zur Delegation sagte: „Wie könnt ihr diesen schwarzen Mann als den Besten unter euch akzeptieren? Er sollte der Letzte unter euch sein." Man entgegnete ihm darauf: „Nein, obwohl er, wie du siehst, schwarz ist, hat er den höchsten Rang unter uns. Er gehört zu den Bedeutendsten und Weisesten unter uns. Die schwarze Hautfarbe gilt bei uns keineswegs als etwas Schlechtes." Daraufhin ließ al-Muqawqis Ubadah mit den Worten vortreten: „Tritt vor, o schwarzer Mann, und sprich freundlich zu mir, da mich deine dunkle Haut beunruhigt. Sprichst du harsch zu mir, wird mich dies nur noch mehr beunruhigen."

    Ubadah ibn as-Samit (r) trat vor und richtete folgende Worte an al-Muqawqis: „Ich hörte, was du sagtest. Unter meinen Gefährten, die ich zurückließ, sind Tausende von Männern, die schwarz sind wie ich, ja sogar dunkler als ich und schrecklicher anzusehen. Hättest du sie erblickt, wärst du weitaus erschrockener. Meine Jugend ist vergangen, und dennoch fürchte ich mich nicht davor, wenn hundert feindliche Männer mir gleichzeitig entgegenträten. Das Gleiche gilt für meine Gefährten, denn unsere Hoffnung und unser Wunsch ist es, um Allahs willen in den Dschihad zu ziehen auf der Suche nach Seinem Wohlgefallen.

    Der Grund für unser Ausziehen gegen unsere Feinde, die Krieg gegen Allah führen, ist nicht die Hoffnung auf weltlichen Gewinn oder das Anhäufen von Reichtümern, obwohl uns Allah dies durchaus gestattet hat und uns die Beute, die wir machen, erlaubt hat. Doch niemanden von uns kümmert es, ob er einen Qintar (Gewichtseinheit) Gold oder nichts als einen Dirham hat. Denn alles, was wir von dieser Welt erwarten, ist etwas zu essen und den Hunger zu stillen sowie ein Tuch, um es um uns zu wickeln. Besitzt jemand von uns nur dies, so ist es ausreichend. Besitzt jemand ein Qintar Gold, spendet er es um Allahs willen und ist mit dem Wenigen zufrieden, das in seiner Hand verbleibt. Denn der Genuss dieser Welt ist nicht der wahre Genuss und ihr Luxus ist kein wahrer Luxus. Wahrer Genuss und Luxus kommt im Jenseits.

    Dies ist es, wozu unser Schöpfer uns leitet und was unser Prophet uns gelehrt hat. Er riet uns dazu, dass unser einziger Ehrgeiz in der Welt darauf beschränkt sein sollte, genug zu haben, um unseren Hunger zu stillen und unsere Blöße zu bedecken. Unser Hauptanliegen sollte sein, unseren Schöpfer zufrieden zu stellen und gegen seine Feinde in den Dschihad zu ziehen."

    Als al-Muqawqis dies hörte, sagte er zu jenen, die um ihn standen: „Habt ihr jemals etwas Ähnliches gehört wie das, was jener Mann sagte? Seine Erscheinung erschreckte mich, doch seine Worte erschrecken mich mehr als seine Erscheinung. Allah schickte diesen Mann und seine Gefährten hinaus, um die Welt zu zerstören. Ich denke, sie sind dazu angehalten, über die ganze Welt zu herrschen."

    Die Einstellung und Festigkeit von Muslimen wie Ubadah ibn as-Samit (r) war es, die die Ausbreitung der islamischen Botschaft vorantrieb und die zur Ausdehnung des Kalifats führte, das als kleiner Staat in Medina begonnen hatte. Al-Muqawqis wusste die Worte von Ubadah richtig einzuschätzen. Er erahnte die Taten, die einer solchen Einstellung entspringen.
