Von `A´ischa, Mutter der Gläubigen, Allahs Wohlgefallen auf ihr, die sagte:
„Das erste, mit dem der Gesandte Allahs, Allahs Segen und Friede auf ihm, die Offenbarung begann, war das wahrhaftige Traumgesicht während des Schlafs, er hatte keinen Traum gesehen, der sich nicht wie das Morgenlicht bewahrheitet hat. Danach wurde ihm (von Allah) die Einsamkeit lieb gemacht. Dazu wählte er die Berghöhle von Hira´, in die er sich gewöhnlich für mehrere Nächte zurückzog und Allahs Nähe suchte - eine Art Gottesverehrung. Anschließend begab er sich zu seiner Familie und kümmerte sich um die Versorgung der nächsten Runde, er kehrte dann abermals zu Chadidscha zurück, um sich für ähnliche Versorgung vorzubereiten. (Und dies geschah so weiter,) bis die Wahrheit zu ihm kam, während er sich in der Berghöhle von Hira´ aufhielt. Dort kam der Engel (Gabriel) zu ihm und sagte: „Lies!" Darauf sagte er: „Ich kann nicht lesen." (Der Prophet berichtete davon, indem) er sagte: „Da ergriff er mich und drückte mich bis zu meiner Erschöpfung, ließ mich dann los und sagte erneut: „Lies!" Ich sagte (wieder): „Ich kann nicht lesen." Da ergriff er mich und drückte mich zum zweiten Male bis zur Erschöpfung, ließ mich dann los und sagte: „Lies!" Ich sagte: „Ich kann nicht lesen", dann ergriff er mich und drückte mich zum dritten Mal, alsdann ließ er mich los und sagte: »„Lies im Namen deines Herrn, Der erschaffen hat, den Menschen erschaffen hat aus einem Anhängsel. Lies, und dein Herr ist der Edelste, …"« (Qur`an 96:1-3)"
Mit diesen Ayah (Versen) kehrte der Gesandte Allahs, Allahs Segen und Friede auf ihm, mit einem bebenden Herzen zurück. Dann trat er bei (seiner Frau) Chadidscha Bint Chuwailid, Allahs Wohlgefallen auf ihr, ein und sagte: „Hüllt mich ein, hüllt mich ein!" Sie hüllten ihn ein, bis die Furcht von ihm abließ. Hier dann erzählte er Chadidscha und berichtete ihr von dem Ereignis: „Ich bangte um mein Leben." Darauf sagte Chadidscha: „Niemals wirst du bei Allah eine Schande erleben denn du bist wahrlich derjenige, der die Verwandtschaftsbande pflegt, dem Schwachen hilft, dem Mittellosen gibt, den Gast freundlich aufnimmt und dem Notleidenden unter die Arme greift." Chadidscha verließ dann mit ihm das Haus und ging zu dem Sohn ihres Onkels, Waraqa Ibn Naufal Ibn Assad Ibn `Abdu-l-`Uzza, der in der Dschahiliyya zum Christentum übergetreten war, er beherrschte die hebräische Sprache und pflegte - solange es Allah wollte, aus dem Evangelium in hebräischer Sprache abzuschreiben - er war ein Greis, der später erblindet ist. Chadidscha sagte zu ihm: „O Sohn meines Onkels, höre von dem Sohn deines Bruders, was er sagt!" Waraqa sagte dann zu ihm: „O Sohn meines Bruders, was bringst du mit?" Hier berichtete ihm der Gesandte Allahs, Allahs Segen und Friede auf ihm, was er gesehen hatte. Da sagte Waraqa zu ihm: „Das ist die Botschaft (Engel Gabriell) wie sie Allah auch Moses offenbarte. Ich wünsche mir, ich wäre jung genug, um solange am Leben zu bleiben, um es zu erleben, wenn dich deine Leute vertreiben!" Darauf sagte der Gesandte Allahs, Allahs Segen und Friede auf ihm: „Werden sie mich wirklich vertreiben?" Waraqa erwiderte: „Ja! Kein Mensch war mit Ähnlichem gekommen, wie du es gebracht hast, ohne dass er (mit seinem Volke) angefeindet wurde. Wenn ich an diesem deinem Tag noch am Leben bin, werde ich dich mit aller Kraft unterstützen." Es dauerte aber nicht mehr lange, da starb Waraqa, und der Empfang von weiteren Offenbarungen erlebte für eine Weile einen Stillstand.
