Das zentrale Thema dieses Verses ist das Gebet. Es ist ein besonderer Stil des Qur'ān, dass er die Pluralform für Allāh gebraucht, wenn er über die Größe Allāhs oder Seine Herrschaft oder Seinen Zorn spricht. Dies ist der königliche Weg der Rede. Wenn der Qur'ān von der Barmherzigkeit oder Gnade Allāhs spricht, gebraucht er wie hier die Singularform. Dies zeigt, dass Allāh besonders Barmherzig zu Seinen Geschöpfen ist. Der Mensch betet, um seine eigenen Bedürfnisse zu erfüllen, aber Allāh behandelt dies als eine der edelsten Formen des Gebets. Es ist Seine Güte, die alle Schleier zwischen Allāh und Seinen Geschöpfen hinwegnimmt. Er sagt, dass Er dir näher ist als die Hauptschlagader. Was immer du brauchst und warum du fragst, erbitte es direkt von Ihm. Die Überlieferung des Propheten sagt, dass Allāh des Menschen Bittgebet auf eine der drei Arten erhört: Entweder wird sein Gebet sofort erhört, oder es wird für das Jenseits aufgehoben, oder entsprechend des Gebetes werden einige drohenden Leiden sofort von ihm genommen, die ihn andererseits befallen haben könnten. Fragst du beispielsweise eine höchst großzügige Person öfters um etwas, so wird sie dich sattbekommen. Nicht aber so Allāh. Bitte Ihn und bitte Ihn wiederholt, Er wird dir gewogen sein. Wenn du aber aufhörst, Seine Wohltaten zu erbitten, wird Er mit dir nicht mehr zufrieden sein. In dieser Welt ist es eine Sache von Ungnade, deine Hände nach einer anderen Person auszustrecken, um etwas zu erbitten; aber bitte Allāh um etwas und du wirst nicht in Ungnade fallen, sondern mehr Beachtung von Ihm erhalten. Der Unterschied ist nur der, dass dies in Europa auf lasterhafte, demoralisierende, verderbende Weise geschah, dass die Frauen stets ruiniert, und etwaige Kinder mit Schande bedeckt wurden. Hingegen in den wenigen Fällen, wo es bei den Muselmanen geschieht, wirkt die Mehrehe durchaus nicht demoralisierend; die Frau ist weder sich selbst verächtlich, noch von andern verachtet, das Kind aber wohl berechtigt und ebenbürtig. İn gewisser Hinsicht ist die Mehrehe ja auch eine Einheitsehe, da die erste Frau ihre freiwillige Zustimmung zur zweiten Ehe geben muss. Die zweite Frau genießt zwar die gleichen ehelichen Rechte (ihre Kinder besitzen vollkommene Ebenbürtigkeit), aber sie muss stets der ersten Frau in allem gehorchen, vorausgesetzt sie leben zusammen. Nur die erste Frau ist die Repräsentantin des Hauses. Tatsachen sind wohl der beste Beweis für die Wahrheit meiner Darstellung. - Es ist unzweifelhaft, dass die Frauen und Männer in fast allen muselmanischen Ländern, wo der Glaube schon wirklich ins Volk gedrungen ist, in Gedenken, Worten und Werken viel sittlicher sind, als die Europäer. Was nun die Jungfrauen betrifft, so mag Gott wissen, wie viele in Europa bei der Hochzeit noch wirkliche Jungfrauen sind. Von manchen Gegenden wurde mir versichert - keine. İn den muselmanischen Ländern dagegen fast ausnahmslos - alle. Wie es unter den Jünglingen aussieht, braucht man nicht zu fragen. Unter den Studenten Berlins (welche doch die Besten des Volkes sein sollen), sind jährlich nur 30% als geschlechtskrank bekannt. Bei dreijährigem Kursus sind demnach so ziemlich alle verseucht. Der "dumme" Muselman trinkt nur das gemeine Wasser, ist am Abend zuhause bei Frau und Kind; der "schlaue" Christ aber muss sich amüsieren. Er muss saufen, muss nach der Kneipe, und Gott weiß wohin. Was liegt ihm an Frau und Kind? Die können sich ja auch amüsieren! Der Muselman unterhält sich nie mit Klatschereien. Zweideutigkeiten sind ihm ein Greuel. Das Gespräch dreht sich fast immer in größter Ehrfurcht um religiöse Dinge, da sein ganzes Leben und Denken mit der Religion verwoben und verwachsen ist. Der Christ unterhält sich am liebsten mit Klatscherei, Verläumdung. Laster und Zweideutigkeit sind ihm ein Hochgenuss, ohne diese ist bei vielen überhaupt keine Unterhaltung denkbar; je schmutziger, desto lieber. Religion wird meist nur in die Unterhaltung gezogen, um beschmutz und bespottet zu werden. Nichts ist ihm heilig, weder im Himmel noch auf Erden, noch unter der Erde. Dem Muselman ist das Frauengemach, die Frau und alles, was darauf bezug hat, absolut heilig, unverletzlich. Überall begegnet man ihr mit Achtung. Deshalb auch die Vollverschleierung. Es geht niemanden was an, wie das Weib eines Anderen aussieht. Auf der Straße nimmt er nur so wenig als nur möglich Notiz von ihr. Der Christ betrachtet sie nur als ein Wesen, um beschmutzt und entheiligt zu werden. Keine Frau ist vor Anmaßung und Frechheit sicher. Man verfolgt sie mit allen Künsten, die Lug, Trug und Gemeinheit eingeben können."
