Hafsa bint Umar Ibn Al-Khattab, war die Tochter von Umar Ibn al-Khattab und Ehefrau von Muhammad (ALLAHs Segen und Frieden mit ihm). Der Name Hafsa bedeutet "junge Löwin". Hafsa war die Tochter von Umar Ibn Al-Khattab Ibn Nafil. Ihre Mutter hieß Zainab Bint Mazrun und sie war die Schwester von Uthman Ibn Mazrun, einem der engsten Gefährten von Muhammad (ALLAHs Segen und Frieden mit ihm), der sehr früh gestorben ist. Hafsa (ALLAHs Wohlgefallen auf ihr) wurde fünf Jahre, bevor Muhammad (ALLAHs Segen und Frieden mit ihm) zum Propheten ernannt wurde, geboren. Sie war 35 Jahre jünger als der Prophet (ALLAHs Segen und Frieden mit ihm). Die erste Ehe von Hafsa war im Jahr 7 der Islamischen Zeitrechnung, als sie zwölf Jahre alt war. Ihr Ehemann hieß Khumais Ibn Huzafa Al-Sahmi. Er war der Bruder von Abdullah Ibn Huzafa, einem der berühmtesten Gefährten des Propheten (ALLAHs Segen und Frieden mit ihm), der als Märtyrer starb, als ihn der Prophet (ALLAHs Segen und Frieden mit ihm) zum römischen Kaiser Heraklius geschickt hatte, und mit einer Nachricht zu Chosroes, dem König von Persien. Ihr Ehemann starb an einer Verletzung durch einen Pfeil im Kriegszug von Uhud. Als er getroffen war, starb er nicht gleich, sondern kehrte nach Medina zurück. Es ging ihm immer schlechter, die Wunde überwältigte ihn, und er (Allahs Wohlgefallen auf ihm) starb. Als Hafsa 21 Jahre alt war, wurde sie Witwe. Sie war durch ihr Fasten und ihre Nachtgebete bekannt. Deswegen wurde sie die „Fastende" und „Nachtbetende" genannt. Umar Ibn Al-Khattab sah seine Tochter trauern und niemand kam, um sie zu heiraten. Umar entschied sich, seine Tochter zu verheiraten. Er ging zu Abu Bakr, der aber ablehnte. Danach ging er zu Uthman, der, nach längerem Nachdenken, auch ablehnte Hafsa zu heiraten. Aber warum haben Abu Bakr und Uthman abgesagt? Weil der Prophet (ALLAHs Segen und Frieden mit ihm) mit ihnen zuvor gesessen hatte und ihnen mitteilte, dass er die Tochter von Umar heiraten wolle. Also wussten sie darüber Bescheid und konnten es nur nicht gegenüber Umar erwähnen. Hafsa (ALLAHs Wohlgefallen auf ihr) war wegen drei Eigenschaften bekannt, zwei davon waren wunderbar und die dritte lag in ihrer Natur. Die zwei wunderbaren Eigenschaften sind: sie hatte gefastet und die Nacht gebetet, und natürlich sind diese Eigenschaften durch die Heirat mit dem Propheten (ALLAHs Segen und Frieden mit ihm) verstärkt worden, sodass sie mehr fastete und in den Nächten länger betete. Die dritte Eigenschaft, die in ihrer Natur lag, war die starke Eifersucht, die besonders für sie markant war. Auch als sie mit ihrem früheren Mann verheiratet war, bevor er als Märtyrer gestorben ist, war sie für ihre Eifersucht bekannt. Hafsa(ALLAHs Wohlgefallen auf ihr) besaß ein Quraanexemplar, das bei der "Sammlung des Quraans" durch den Kalifen Uthman von entscheidender Bedeutung war, was für eine Ehre für sie war. Das zeigt wiederrum die Ehrung des Islam gegenüber der Frau. So blieb das Quraanbuch bei Hafsa (ALLAHs Wohlgefallen auf ihr) bis zu ihrem Tode. Sie lebte in der Zeit von Abu Bakr, Umar und Ali r.a. und starb in der Zeit von Muawiya Ibn Abu Sufian, im Jahre 45 nach der Hidschra.
