Abed Rabbeh, a farmer from Al-Walaja near Jerusalem Died after a long story with struggle, he was stubborn in the face of the Israeli greediness to take his land in Al-Walaja. More than thirty years Israel couldn't take him out, finally he died while standing watching his land. Many times the Israeli police with the settlers troops came to him and shouted 'death to Arabs!' toward Abed Rabbeh, they tried a lot to convince him to leave to Dheisheh refugee camp. But Abed Rabbeh had documents that prove that his father, his grandfather and many generations before him, were born in Al-Walaja village. Rabbeh, a man in his fifties, he was one of the last holdouts of al-Walaja's indigenous Palestinian population. Israel tried tens of times to destroy his home which is actually a cave, but they couldn't take him out or send him to a refugee camp. Ethnically cleansed in Al-Walaja began on 1948 by Israeli forces. The most of Al-Walaja's uprooted population and their descendants mostly live in Dheisheh today. For the past 15 years, Rabbeh had lived by himself on a hillside in Al-Walaja that he has thickened with green vegetation and abundant, hand-planted crops of all kinds of edible produce. A well-built chicken coop is at the top of his land, and calm doves mingle with a dozen constantly clucking hens and a few white rabbits. Rabbeh has set himself up inside a Canaanite-era cave because he cannot build according to the Israeli law. There fore inside the cave he created his home, with bookshelves and decorated with photographs and newspaper clippings of articles mentioning his struggle and the struggle of Palestinians in general. A wood-burning stove sits in one corner across from a small bed and table with wooden chairs, and a tin roof extends outwards to protect the cave from the elements. On 2009, on a trip to Israel, US President Barack Obama was invited by Rabbeh to visit his cave and talk about his situation. Rabbeh explains that it is a microcosm of the current Palestinian struggle for basic human rights under a military apartheid regime. The US president expectedly refused; but a response letter was sent from the US Consulate in Jerusalem with a sympathetic, but brief, note of regret. Abed Rabbeh decided to stand and that's why he is still alive in the minds and hearts of many people, and he created his own way of struggle that will go on after his death. توفي اليوم الثلاثاء المزارع عبد الفتاح عبد ربه( 56 عاما)، إثر إصابته بنوبة قلبية، وذلك بعد حياة مليئة بالتصدي لقوات الاحتلال ومواجهتها.وتعرض عبد ربه طوال أربعة عقود لعمليات تنكيل وضغوط من قبل جيش الاحتلال، لإجباره على التخلي عن أرضه البالغة 50 دونما في قرية الولجة غرب بيت لحم.وبدأت المحاولات الإسرائيلية للاستيلاء على أرض عبد ربه، بالإدعاء أن هذه الأرض مملوكة لبلدية الاحتلال في القدس. وحاولت وزارة الداخلية الإسرائيلية إخراجه من أرضه، بدعوى أنها أرض جرداء.وتقع أرض عبد ربه على مقربة من مستوطنة "غيلو" ولا تفصلها عنها غير بضع مئات من الأمتار.ولاحقت سلطات الاحتلال المزارع عبد ربه في محاولة منها لانتزاع ارضه ومارست عليه مختلف اشكال الضغط ومنعته من البناء فوق ارضه، لكنه اتخذ من كهف قديم ملجأ للعيش فيه.ولم يكتف الاحتلال بمنعه من البناء فوق ارضه بل اقدم على هدم جزء من الكهف الذي لجأ له، وصادروا آلات زراعية كان يستعملها في فلاحة أرضه.وقال منذر عميرة منسق لجان مقاومة الجدار والاستيطان " نفقد اليوم مزارعا وطنيا التصق بارضه ودافع عنها بكل ما اوتي من قوة وعزيمة بعد ان تناهى الى مسامعه مساعي الاحتلال لضمها لبلدية القدس".وأضاف أنه واجه الاحتلال ببسالة طوال عقود، فكان احد المزارعين الصامدين ونموذجا يحتذي به في الدفاع عن الارض".وشيع مواطنون في بيت لحم المزراع عبد ربه إلى مثواه الأخير في مقبرة القبة بمخيم عايدة، علما ان الراحل هو شقيق عيسى عبد ربه عميد الاسرى المحررين في محافظة بيت لحم.
