Eines Tages klingelte das Telefon. Ein weinender alter Mann war dran. Er sagte: „Bist du Ahmad?" Ich sagte: „Ja!"Der alte Mann sprach weiter: „Wir gehören Allah und zu Ihm kehren wir zurück;wir fanden deinen Freund Khaled tot auf seinem Bett. Es tut mir sehr leid. Ich schrie: „Khaled?Er war gestern bei mir!" Der alte Mann weinte und sprach: „Wir beten morgen für ihn das Totengebet in der Großen Moschee."Ich legte auf und weinte… Khaled! Wie kann er nur als Jugendlicher sterben? Ich spürte, dass der Tod mich wegen meiner lächerlichen Frage auslachte. Ich betrat weinend die Moschee. Es war das erste Mal, dass ich für jemanden das Totengebet verrichtete. Ich suchte nach Khaled und fand ihn vorne liegen, in weißem Stoff gewickelt. Ganz vorne beim Vorbeter. Er bewegte sich nicht. Ich schrie auf, als ich ihn so sah. Die Anwesenden drehten sich zu mir umIch bedeckte mein Gesicht mit den Händen und senkte meinen Kopf. Ich versuchte mich zu beherrschen, aber vergebens Mein Vater zog mich zu sich und flüsterte mir ins Ohr: „Bete bevor für dich das Totengebet verrichtet wird!" Es war so, als hätte er geschossen und nicht geredet.Ich konnte nicht aufhören zu weinen und konnte meinen Blick von Khaled nicht abwenden. Was würde Khaled wohl wünschen, wenn er jetzt aufstehen würde: -Eine Zigarette? -Eine Freundin? -Eine Reise ins Ausland? -Einen coolen Song? Ich versetzte mich in seine Lage und erinnerte mich an die Verse: [68:41] Am Tage, wenn die Beine entblößt werden und sie aufgefordert werden, sich anbetend niederzuwerfen, werden sie es nicht können. Wir gingen zum Friedhof und ließen ihn in sein Grab nieder. Ich überlegte mir: Was wird er wohl antworten, wenn er nach seinen Taten gefragt wird? Sagt er etwa:- Zwanzig Lieder- sechzig Filme- tausende von Zigaretten? Ich weinte lange Kein Gebet, das für ihn für sprechen könnte, keine guten Taten, ich konnte mich nicht bewegen. Mein Vater wartete lange auf mich. Ich verließ Khaled… und ging weg.
