Auf gegenüberliegenden Seite der Anlage die abgeholzt wird, entstehen bereits Neubauten. Die Stadtverwaltung lässt den Park absichtlich verwildern, um später "Umbaumaßnahmen" besser begründen zu können. Der Validebag-Park ist deshalb im Moment ein ökologisches Traumrevier, ein Paradies für Vögel und Lebensraum für andere Tiere, die die Großstadt verdrängt hat. Als vor drei Wochen am Eingang zum Park ein erster Bautrupp auftauchte, waren die Bewohner der umliegenden Häuser sofort alarmiert und eine Stadtteilinitiative trommelte in den sozialen Netzen für Unterstützung, es entstand ein Protestcamp. Wenige Tage später gab das Gericht dem Bürgern recht und verhängte einen Stopp bis zur Klärung dieser Klage, doch die Bauarbeiten gingen weiter. Die Stadtverwaltung behauptete, bei der einstweiligen Anordnung sei ein anderer Platz gemeint als der, auf dem die Bebauung der Moschee vorbereitet wurde. Der Anwalt der Initiative wendete sich daraufhin wieder an das Gericht und dies bestätigte, dass seine Anordnung genau den Moscheebau betrifft. Als trotzdem weitergebaut wurde, legten sich die Demonstranten quer – im wahrsten Sinne des Wortes. Sie begannen, die Einfahrt zur Baustelle zu blockieren, daraufhin wurden wieder Wasserwerfer eingesetzt. Die regierungsnahe Presse legt mit der Berichtserstattung los auf die sie gewartet haben.., diese Menschen der gesamten Bevölkerung als Islam - Gegner vorstellen zu können. Erdogan schaltete sich ebenfalls ein und behauptete, den Demonstranten gehe es lediglich darum, aus ideologischen Gründen den Bau einer Moschee zu verhindern. Das wiederum war das Signal für die regierungsnahe Presse, eine Diffamierungskampagne gegen die Demonstranten zu starten. Die Unruhestifter seien „Ungläubige", denen es nicht um die Natur gehe, sondern die gegen die Religion seien, hieß es im regierungsnahen Blatt Yeni Safak.
