In den Medien hierzulande und in zahllosen Buchtiteln wird immer suggeriert, dass es sich bei „Allah" um einen anderen Gott als den Gott der Christen bzw. gar um einen „Mondgott" (das hört man immer wieder v.a. von evangelikalen Christen) handeln würde. Dagegen hatte bereits der deutsche Islamwissenschaftler Gernot Rotter stets betont, "dass ‚Allah' schließlich nichts anderes als ‚Gott' bedeutet und dass die Christen im Nahen Osten, die schon vor dem Auftreten des Islams dort lebten, ‚Gott' eben auch nur als ‚Allah' kannten und kennen". In der Tat wird in jeder arabischen Bibel Gott mit dem Wort „Allah" benannt. Interessant ist in diesem Zusammenhang auch der Blick auf die kleine Mittelmeerinsel Malta, wo eine fast rein katholische Bevölkerung eine aus dem Maghrebinischen stammende Sprache (Maltesisch) spricht: Die Malteser nennen Gott „Alla". Das bestätigt, was auch nach dem katholischen Theologen Hans Küng eindeutig ist: Das arabische Wort „Allah (ist) zusammengezogen aus al-ilah (die Gottheit): kein Eigenname wie Zeus, sondern ein Appellativ wie ‚theos, Deus, Dieu' und daher mit Gott zu übersetzen." (Küng, Hans: Der Islam 2006, S. 16) Der Quran macht deutlich, dass Allah und der Gott der Bibel identisch sind: „Unser Gott [Der der Muslime] und euer Gott [der der Christen] ist ein und derselbe." (Sure 29:46). In Sure 3:84 heißt es: „Sprich: ‚Wir glauben an Allah und an das, was auf uns herabgesandt worden ist, und was auf Abraham, Ismael, Isaak, Jakob und die Stämme herabgesandt worden den war, und was Moses und Jesus und den Propheten von ihrem Herrn gegeben wurde." In diesen Versen wird somit klar ausgesprochen, dass mit Allah der Eine Gott gemeint ist – der Gott von Abraham, Moses, Jesus und Mohammed (Friede sei mit ihnen allen). Weiterhin kann darauf hingewiesen werden, dass das Wort „Allah" mit den biblischen Begriffen für Gott verwandt ist. So ist das Wort "ilah" mit den biblischen/hebräischen Wörtern 'eloh und 'elohim' (in der Bedeutung von „Gott") verwandt, ebenso wie mit dem biblischen/aramäischen Wort 'elâh'. Interessant ist auch, dass Gott auf Aramäisch „Ala(h)a" heißt. Es dürfte heute unstrittig sein, dass Jesus (Isa) Aramäisch gesprochen hat (vgl. auch Wikepedia), was aramäische Jesuszitate im Neuen Testament belegen. Somit hätte Jesus (bzw. Isa) Gott demnach „Ala(h)a" genannt, was bestimmt viele Christen überraschen dürfte.
