A friend can not be considered real, If your faults he desires to reveal. A friend can not be considered trusted, If when you fall, by his hands you aren't dusted. A friend can not be considered wise, If behind your back he invents lies. A friend can not be considered caring, If around him (your secrets) you are are afraid of sharing. A friend can not be considered honourable, If he makes you feel incapable. A friend can not be considered delicate, If towards you he is inconsiderate. ~ If your friend makes you feel unhappy, or around him you feel the need to constantly please, know that it is not a healthy relationship. Such a friend may have qualities which affect you negatively, they may harm you inwardly as well as outwardly, so do not let this bond to infuse negativity and corruption within you. A real friend will make your heart erupt with sweetness and he will show you something he sees in you, something invaluable which you in turn, see in him. For he reflects you and you reflect him. For instance Nabi SalAllāhu alayhi wa Sallam made every single companion feel important and beloved. No one felt overlooked by him. Even Anas RA who lived with him for ten years, he stated that Nabi SalAllāhu alayhi wa Sallam never once said 'uff' to him in those years. [As stated in Bukhari and Muslim.] So be as such. Make every friend feel important. Show them love. Show them affection. For if you love them, tell them. Just as Nabi SalAllāhu alayhi wa Sallam advised us to. But remember, bad company, no matter how pure and good you maybe, if seen in their midst you will be considered just like them. Not only this, but you will be affected by their wrongs. So tread carefully on the path of friendship and know that not everyone is to be considered a good friend, not everyone can benefit you, some may instead corrupt you. And Nabi SalAllāhu alayhi wa Sallam has stated that a man is on the deen of his friend.
